Description
Fort Mackinac was built on Mackinac Island, Michigan by the British during the American Revolution. The fort was turned over to the United States in 1796, but recaptured by the British during the War of 1812 and reoccupied by the Americans in 1815. From 1875 to 1895, the soldiers administered Mackinac National Park, the second national park in the United States.
