Hundreds of lilac bushes fill Mackinac Island, which is located in the Straits of Mackinac in northern Michigan. Many of the lilacs date from the 1800s. Since 1949, Mackinac Island has an annual Lilac Festival in early to mid June.
In the background you see Fort Mackinac. The Officers Stone Quarters at the front of the fort is the oldest building in Michigan and date from the American Revolution.
No automobiles are permitted on Mackinac Island.
