This Four-span through truss Union Pacific Railroad bridge cross the Kansas River a few hundred yards from Kaw Point where the Kansas River and Missouri River meet and where Lewis and Clark camped during their exploration. Although it is very close to the Missouri state line, it is entirely in Kansas City, Kansas. The 960' long bridge was built in 1904 to replace a bridge which was destroyed by a flood in 1903.
It was photographed from the Woodsweather Bridge, which carries west bound I-70 on its upper level and the Riverfront Heritage Trail on its lower level.
Keith Stokes usually has a camera in his hand - photographing Mackinaw City & Mackinac Island in northern Michigan for MightyMac.org, Kansas & Kansas City for KansasTravel.org and science fiction conventions for MidAmericon.org. His photos appear regularly in Locus Magazine, the Food Channel Magazine and other publications and books. His photograph of Pillsbury Crossing was the cover of a recent K-Stater Magazine.
