The Coal Dock on Mackinac Island, Michigan once stockpiled coal for homes and ships until it was replaced by diesel and fuel oil. Mackinac Island was the 2nd National Park in the United States and later became the 1st Michigan State Park. Automobiles are not permitted on the Island, which is a popular summer resort.
