One of the best ways to view the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is by taking a cruise of Munising, Michigan. The two and half hour cruise goes along about 18 miles of the spectacular limestone cliffs. This photo was taken in 2008.
On the return portion of the cruise, the Captain pulled the boat closer to a portion of the rocky shore where there were herring gulls nesting on the rocks. Some of the young people started throwing bits of bread and dozens of gulls started following the boat. They kept pace with us for at least a mile.
